June 2014

In June, our busy life of work became our busy life of play!

We did lots of things  together as a family and really enjoyed this first month of summer!

One of our biggest projects this month was getting a lot of concrete!  We made our driveway wider  and concrete, created a path from the driveway to the patio and then expanded our patio and added a circle for a fire ring.  Here are some pictures from that project:

We took the kids putt putt golfing  for  the first time  in  early June.  They did as well as I thought they would.  There was no waiting in line for the other person to go and fighting over who got to go first, but we expected all of this.  They had a really good time and the weather was beautiful!

Aunt Beth came to visit for a few days in June and we had a great time!  We went out to eat, played games, and just relaxed together.  It was so great to see her!

Claire finished up her soccer season by scoring THREE  goals in her last game.  She is anxious for the fall season to start.  This first picture below is one of my favorite pictures of her in action on the soccer field.

We busted out one of those cheap inflatable pools for the kids and they love it!  Pete and I did yard  work and regraded the yard while they played.

I had to work on Father's Day this year so the kids and I celebrated one week early with Pete.  We got  him  some of his favorite  beer, and ice cream cake from Dairy Queen, sushi, a new weed whacker and then the kids  picked out stuff at the store.  Claire picked out donuts  and cereal, Jake picked  out hot dogs with buns, and Grace picked out garage light bulbs.  (OK, OK I helped Grace with hers!) I also interviewed the kids and asked them what their favorite thing about dad was, etc and it was a pretty entertaining  10 minute video.  The kids loved laughing at themselves and watching themselves on TV.

We took the kids to the fair at the local high school and they had a great time riding the rides and playing games.  Here are some pictures from our time at the fair:

One Saturday, we took the kids to a local lake with a beach on it.  It was a pretty chilly day but the kids didn't mind and neither did we because we were some of the only ones there.  We had fun throwing rocks in the lake and building sand castles.

One evening, we  took the kids on a bike ride to go get ice cream.

One of Claire's best buds, Lauren (pink hat), had her birthday party at Chucke Cheese.

Pete and I went to a Jimmy Buffett concert with our friends, Scott and Trina.  It was so much fun!

To end the month, we took our kids to the Akron Rubber Ducks game.  We used to go to games like these as kids in Indianapolis so I was anxious to see how they would do.  They may be a little too young still because they got bored after about 5 innings.  They enjoyed the 7th inning  stretch and getting ready to catch balls.  Pete's mom went with us and it was so nice to have an extra set of hands.  After the game, there were fireworks and Claire did NOT like  those!  As we were leaving the game she said "Thanks for bringing me here, but can we never come  back?"

Maybe next time we will try a game without the fireworks...or bring ear plugs??

Fun in the sun

I came home from work one night and all three kids had snuck into bed together - hard to get mad at that when you see this!

Phew! Finally caught up!

Thanks for checking in  on us!!
